Can't Believe Tomorrow is actually the day! I have looked forward to this for soooo long. IN fact, this idea came to me a while back and it has been quite a journey to get here. So for this blog post I want to take a walk down memory lane and remember where this all got started. So here's an updated repost of how O-boy came to be! Sketching and doodling are very important. Its often where ideas are born. I first sketched O-Boy on a 3 inch piece of scrap paper. I was trying to draw a cute baby like character. I thought his hair kind of looked like a retro space boy, so I decided to make him a super hero complete with a cape. Next I did a few more drawings, trying to refine his look. Excitedly, I shared him with some kids I know. Not one thought he was a super hero but every single kid thought he was a baby vampire. So I decided to make him a robot. I confidently showed this to one of the kids who promptly said, "a robot baby vampire!" I decided to lose the ears and reluctantly the cape. The kids got it this time. Art and cartooning are all about communicating a clear message. When the kids didn't understand what I was trying to say I had to keep coming back in an attempt to clarify my message. Its an ongoing process. Its easy for artists to have an idea that is all worked out in their mind but has a lot of gaps for the audience. Its easy to forget that it is all about communication. Its not that you change an idea just so people will like it. You change it only for clarification to get the message across. All this time I was putting together a story for him as well as other characters which will be featured in the comic Update: That first drawing was done over 2 years ago. Since then O-boys look has continued to go through some variations as you can see below. The final design is the one you see in the title page and the Logo. Can't wait to see Him in action Tomorrow! There are so many people i want to thank. my family, weebly, ccas, Kevin Lintz, Christian comics group on facebook, and imagine how different O-boy would look if those kids hadn't given me honest feedback! But most of all I want to thank God for allowing me to do this and for the gospel which has transformed my life. Can't wait till tomorrow.

Just 2 more days! I can't wait! But to help me give an outlet to all this excitement i Want to give a huge thanks to my bro, Kevin Lintz! Kevin is a super talented writer I met at the Christian comic Arts Society. He took my scattered concept and plot and pulled it together into a story. More importantly for me personally, his collaboration energized me to turn this daydream into a reality. So thanks again Kev, you are truly awesome! BTW you can check out a comic written by Kevin called Team Slug by clicking the link below.
AS we get closer to launch I want to give a shout out to the Christian Comic Arts Society. Its a great site that allows Christians into comics to share and create. Finding it was a Godsend for me as it was the encouragement and collaboration I needed to get this comic off the ground. I have made lasting friendships there and met lots of talented people. If you get a chance check it out sometime.
As the launch date approaches, I wanted to share some more artistic inspiration. the look of O-boy was inspired by lessons from Preston Blair's book on Animation. The cute childlike proportions and classic cartoon features came out of blair's outstanding instruction. the original printing of this book is public domain and several pages can be downloaded online. If you want to draw cartoons, or even just want to learn basic drawing, I encourage you to check it out.
Just 5 short days till the first strip is posted! Meanwhile, I want to share with you another inspiration for the strip-- the writings of John Bunyan. Most people know about Pilgrim's Progress but Bunyan was a prolific writer and wrote many other equally amazing works. Another favorite of mine is the Holy War which I highly recommend. many of his great works are public domain and you can read them for free! I love the idea of allegory and bunyan was a master at illustrating great truths with fantastic stories. which is exactly what I hope to do with O-boy. Stay Tuned.
